Pre-Kindergarten
Our program for pre-school children will meet in the classroom next to the Nursery. Different parents will lead the class on a schedule determined by those participating. Class materials are based on Bible stories and provide storytelling, coloring, organized play, cutting, and pasting activities. The curriculum is flexible to meet the needs of those engaged. A small snack provided by the teacher is often a favorite part of the lesson! This is one fun class with pre-school kids providing lots of entertainment.
Kindergarten - 4th grade
The program for these elementary aged students will follow the curriculum Seasons of the Spirit which is based on the liturgical teachings of the year. Students will engage in storytelling, crafts, and role-playing activities as they learn about people and stories in the Bible and how these teachings apply to their own lives today. The curriculum from September 10 - November 26 is entitled Pentecost 2; from December 3 - February 1S will be Advent, Christmas, and Epiphany, and February 25 - May 27 will bring us to Lent and Easter. Teachers will rotate from week to week and will be assisted by parents and other volunteers from the congregation. The "Storytelling" classroom downstairs will be the homeroom, but other areas of the building will be used as needed to enhance the lesson.
Middlers: 5th thru 8th grades
FPC Middlers are students in grades 5m through Sm. This more mature group of learners will continue their study of the Bible but take highlights they learned in their younger years and really delve into Qther aspects behind the actual Bible lesson. Timelines, people and places are all explored with coursework designed for this age group. This interesting class will use fun tools like Jeopardy, New Testament Baseball and Who Wants to be a Bible Millionaire to learn in a more interactive manner.
Senior High 9th thru 12th grades
Students in gm thru 12m grades are invited to attend a Bible Study with varied curriculum, including discussion of current events and issues challenging Christian youth today. The program encourages spiritual growth through study of Scripture coupled with Christian fellowship. In addition, the Youth Group meets in the fellowship hall from 6pm to Spm on Sunday evenings and is open to all students in grades 6th thru 12th. A variety of activities are offered including games, discussions, movies, skits, day trips and mission work. The focus of the Youth Group is to encourage Christian fellowship and spiritual growth while developing a "Jesus Attitude". It is not intended to duplicate the Sunday school classroom experience but to help teens build a closer personal relationship with their peers, their leaders and their Savior, Jesus Christ in a supportive environment.
Adult Education - Is it for you???
At FPC we are committed to learning for all ages and believe that adults are hungry to understand their own faith and its teachings. You want to know how to choose a Bible for your home. You want to know more about what's happening in the Middle East and how it affects the Christians living there. You have a vague recollection of some of those Bible stories you learned as a child but what do they mean now? Above all, you want to engage in a guided conversation with like-minded people: people that also are curious and want to learn how to apply Scripture to their daily lives. Our adult classes are designed to help you in your quest for knowledge, and do so in a fun, relaxed atmosphere. Come and participate, or sit back and listen, we are anxious to have you.
Contemporary Issues held on Sundays 9:30 am in the Adult Ed I Room
This class addresses Christianity as it meets modern day problems. Class opens with prayers. The overall goal of the class is to look at Biblical solutions to current world issues. Although there can be a text book to assist in providing structure, often class participants bring in a newspaper article to spark a conversation. There is a moderator, but the hope is that all attendees would be active and willing participants in the discussions. This is a very warm, informal group and although continuity is important in any endeavor, this class would be more conducive to participation as students can make time for it.
Kerygma Classes held on Sunday morning at 9:30 behind the kitchen in the AA room starting Feb. 25 and Wednesday evenings at 7:30 p.m. in the Weaver Room starting Feb. 28
Have you enjoyed the addition of singing of the Psalms to our worship service? Would you like to develop a deeper understanding of this rich treasury of devotional literature? The book of Psalms has been a favorite of Jews and Christians for many centuries and remains so today. Psalms is a collection of prayers, poems, and songs that express to God and to God's people the widest spectrum of human experience and emotion. The prayers, poems, and songs express praise, thanksgiving, wonder, doubt, faith, lament, grief, trust, hope, and many other emotions that arise from the human sprit to connect with the Holy Spirit.
Christian Education is pleased to announce that we will be having two classes on the study of "Psalms: Passion, Promise and Praise" running the entire length of Lent. This is another Kerygma class and
